Making 10th St. an Anti-Food Desert

Jeffery Tompkins • Oct 16, 2023

the East 10th St. Corridor is currently a food desert, but that could change.

The Indy Star recently published an article about a tiny vacant building on the 2200 block of East 10th St. in the Near East Side. As a member of this community, I believe we should seize this perfect opportunity to offer fresh food options to an area in desperate need. The space could establish a quick-serve grab-n-go pantry with a deli/bodega. Planners, architects, and designers should lead the way in generating ideas to enhance the resilience, joy, and equity of our communities.

Take a look at the before and after images below. What do you think about how we can revitalize our communities and commercial centers? Sometimes, all it takes is a spark!
